Arctic

I shouted, “Ah! Linger a while—thou art so fair!” And nothing. It passed, like any other moment. Stealing a fragment of my soul, leaving behind a memory of all shades of white and blue.

Week after I came back from my first sailing trip to Arctic. I wake up in the morning, lost in space, half asleep, trying to understand why the yacht isn’t rocking at all. And staring blankly out the window, I try to understand where did the immense, lush green trees came from, they should not be on Spitsbergen. Yesterday, swallows flew just above the grassy hills, and I saw seagulls instead, soaring between the waves. Today, insomnia again, and the eerily stable bed. My thoughts wander somewhere north, in the silence of glacial shards, sizzling wonderfully in the sea…

Few month later. Painting the Arctic experienced for the first time is like trying to smell time. It took me a while to even try. I’ll probably try again. I hope I finally succeed… Eternal beauty. Black, stark mountains, speckled with white snow. Majestic glaciers, their incomprehensible dimensions. The sighs locked within them are occasionally interrupted by the mighty roar of ice falling into the water. All the colors of sky and water, everywhere.

And in this infinity, the carefree, shrieking birds. Fearfully taking flight at the sound of cracking ice, only to settle on the water in a cycle repeated a thousand times…
