Dreams
Touching the stars
I once had a dream. I was swinging on a giant swing, so high into the sky that at one point I realized I was among the stars. Above the Earth, above the atmosphere, in the dark, but somehow it was incredibly soothing. Falling down from such a cosmic distance wasn’t so pleasant, but then I would go up high again, as if I were flying towards the stars…
One of my first paintings, “Dreams,” was inspired by that dream. I wanted to share that childhood magic and the joy of almost touching the stars. And I knew then I wanted to paint, better and better. Nothing is impossible in your mind.
That dream can be interpreted in many ways, one of them being that even by falling occasionally, you can achieve something great if you don’t give in to fear. And that it can all be good.
I’m glad I wasn’t afraid to paint it. I had no experience, no technique, no good materials—some acrylic paints, cardboard, and a few cheap brushes. And yet I love that painting; I often look at it with a smile. It’s a symbol and a reminder that I should enjoy dangling my legs among the stars more often, like that little girl. And that this cosmically long, slightly terrifying flight downward won’t be so terrifying if I don’t succumb to my own fears.
