And when it comes to the desert and horses, it must be the Akhal-Teke, one of the oldest horse breeds, known for its speed, endurance, intelligence, and beauty. Monumental here, as the history of this breed, fascinating in itself. The breed’s ancestors can be traced back to animals living 3,000 years ago. The Akhal-Teke influenced many other breeds, likely including the Thoroughbred. The breed suffered greatly when the Soviet Union ordered the slaughter of horses for meat, which eventually ended, but at one point, only 1,250 horses remained. Later, the Turkmen government began restoring and protecting the breed as part of Turkmenistan’s national heritage…
